History

Established by Dirk Mulder in 1938, Mulder Shipyard has become a renowned member of the Dutch yachtbuilding family. With a Mulder still at its helm, this traditional family business can attribute its excellent reputation to the classic Super Favorite Cruisers, the later Favorite, Wheelhouse and ThirtySix series and a wide range of custom and semi custom motor yachts. The ever growing Mulder fleet has been a welcome feature of Dutch and international waters for decades.

IN THE BEGINNING…

At the end of the 1940s, the yard built its first steel sailing yacht, which prompted a gradual shift towards steel construction in the late 1950s. Mulder’s first motor yacht was 7.5 metres long, with riveted frames and welded shell plates and was launched in 1953. A predecessor to what would become the widely-celebrated Super Favorite Cruiser, she was lovingly nicknamed the ‘Baby Favorite’, with various examples of this model still floating on the water in the present day.

DIRK ROBERT MULDER TAKES OVER

By the late 1960s, Dirk Mulder Sr. was ready to take things a little easier, meaning that the yard was led by a replacement director for a few years. By 1984, change was afoot, and the yard was taken over by his son, the 22-year-old Dirk Robert Mulder. At the time, Dirk Senior was 72 years old and thoroughly enjoying his retirement on board his own Super Favorite Cruiser.

NEW FACILITY AND TOP CLASS YACHTS

With its future firmly in mind, the shipyard built two new construction halls in the late 1980s and early 1990s in order to increase its production capacity. Larger yachts could now be built at the yard – the first of these was the Mulder 70 Futura. With a length of 20.60 metres and a beam of 5.60 metres, the vessel sported a steel hull and an aluminium superstructure. Notably too, from this point onwards, all of the shipyard’s new models incorporated the name of the builder.

A NEW LINE FOR 2000

The yard brought in the millennium by establishing a brand new line of motor yachts: the Mulder Convertible, Mulder Wheelhouse and Mulder Flybridge yachts.

BRINGING IN THE NEXT GENERATION

In 2010, Nick Mulder joined the yard to assist his father in the daily operations at Mulder Shipyard. Following family tradition, Nick was just 22 when he started working at the shipyard: the same age as his father was when he began his time there. From that time, Nick shared responsibility for motor yacht sales, working alongside the yard’s management team to find ways to stimulate the company’s future growth.

BUILT BY MULDER

With over 80 years of experience in the design, development, construction and operation of high-quality motor yachts, Mulder represents the perfect partner for building both semi-custom and fully custom yachts from 50 to 150 feet (15-
45 metres).

In August 2015, Mulder delivered another landmark project with the 34-metre motor yacht Solis which had the accolades of being both the first Mulder over 30 metres and the first Mulder vessel to accord to LY3 standards. With a gross tonnage of 315, Solis is certified for unrestricted navigation and benefits from a transatlantic range.

In 2017 Mulder delivered its largest yacht to date: the first Mulder ThirtySix Delta One. She accommodates as many as 10 guests across five generous staterooms, including her luxurious full-beam owner’s suite. With high-level performance always a key priority for Mulder, Delta One is capable of reaching a top speed of 17 knots thanks to the power provided by her twin 1.150hp Caterpillar C-18 diesel engines.

SUCCESSFUL SISTERSHIPS

Sisterships Calypso, Mana, Myway and Solemates followed closely in the footsteps of Delta One. Award-winning vessels, Delta One secured a World Superyacht Award in 2018, and Calypso won ‘Best Interior Design’ in 2020.

MULDER MARINA

In operation since July 2018, the Mulder Marina can be found in Warmond in the west of the Netherlands. It benefits from a convenient location in the middle of the Randstad, directly on the Kagerplassen.

MULDER FAVORITES

The renewed Mulder Favorite was developed to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Mulder Shipyard and as a tribute to the many Favorite cruisers built by Dirk Mulder Sr. since 1955.
With no fewer than 30 Favorite yachts delivered to date, numerous owners are currently cruising waters all around the world enjoying the benefits of their Mulder yachts – with many more set to join them in the coming years.

The first Favorite 2200 Flybridge yacht was delivered in 2020 and the second followed for repeat Mulder owners in 2022. Largely following the lines of the popular Favorite 1500 and 1700 models, the 22.5-metre all-aluminum Mulder Favorite 2200 has been developed with unique specifications which work perfectly to offer exceptional owner-operated explorations in style and comfort.

CHARTER DEPARTMENT

Founded in 2021, Mulder now has a flourishing charter department. The current fleet consists of Mulder ThirtySix yachts. As their builder, Mulder knows every aspect of these world-class vessels inside and out, with their superb quality, outstanding comfort and enthusiastic and highly-trained crew resulting in an amazing experience for their onboard guests.

Fourth facility in enkhuizen

Mulder Shipyard kicked off 2022 with a major announcement: the purchase of our fourth facility in Enkhuizen, located in the north-west of the Netherlands. Having successfully delivered a worldwide fleet of more than 130 motor yachts since 1984, this investment cements our reputation as a growing shipyard with a solid presence in the global superyacht world.

FUTURE VISION

Mulder currently employs more than 75 full-time workers across three locations, as well as 75 more on a freelance basis. As a family-run company which sees our clients as part of our family, we seize every opportunity to improve quality, decrease delivery times and maintain the best possible relationships with our clients.
